Crystal Mill

Built in 1892, Crystal Mill served as a powerhouse for the town of Crystal and for silver mines in the area until 1917. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1985 and remains one of the most photographed historic sites in Colorado. Getting here was an adventure, negotiating a narrow old 4x4 road for 3.7 miles, but well worth the effort. The scene offers a window into the old west where a hard day’s work involved a very different set of rules. The distant mountains, fall colors and gentle Crystal River make for a classic scene from Colorado's rich history.
